MOMMY AND ME: Moms and infants 6 weeks of age to nearly crawling; Grace United Church, 140 Bruce St. S. No winter series planned at present; please contact instructor if you have an interested group of Moms wanting a course . Spring 2012: $78/6 classes

This 75 minute class begins with moms giving guided baby massage with pure oil, and gentle yoga manipulations,  nurturing the bond and helping baby to relax, stretch, and strengthen in preparation for sitting/crawling. For moms, there is Kundalini breathwork and guided meditation to both calm and energize, and gentle yoga poses and stretches to strengthen pelvic muscle tone, support circulation in and around the breasts, and relieve back and shoulder tension.  Moms work at their own level of challenge, so no experience or strength level is necessary. Babies can lay by mom during her yoga time or be incorporated into some of the poses, and can be nursed on demand in this private, flexible atmosphere.  After class, for those who are interested, there is a social time with yogi tea (compliments of the instructor) and healthy snacks (compliments of the participants).  Babies can bring their own snacks too.

Please bring a non slip exercise mat, blanket for baby to lay on etc., water bottle to keep yourself hydrated, a shawl or sweater for your own cooldown, and wear comfortable, stretchy clothes, with bare feet.  Extra diapers are recommended for baby, as infant massage often stimulates elimination.

TOT YOGIS, crawlers to young walkers, with care giver participation, at Grace United Church, 140 Bruce St. S., Thornbury;  $48/8 classes. No course plans for the winter at present.  Will likely be offered again Spring 2012.

This 30 minute class focuses on simple, age appropriate yoga movements and activities which promote motor development, digestion, listening skills, confidence, and relaxation.   The whole room is the yoga mat, as the instructor offers key phrases and modeling to the parent, one simple pose or game movement at a time.  The parent then instructs, models for and participates in that mini activity with the child, so that this yoga bonding and fun can be carried on again at home.

Yoga mats are not used in this carpeted class.  Please bring a blanket to share with your crawler-toddler for resting on when needed, and a water bottle to keep both of you hydrated.   Extra diapers are recommended as well, as yoga often stimulates young children’s elimination.  Stretchy, comfortable clothes and bare feet are a necessity.
